If they had stuck together, we could have had a decent test case where you could compare the J/120 getting on the wrong side of a whale with attitude vs a Hunter 49 and a Hans Christen 38. Of course without that info it is hard to make any meaningful statement concerning this sinking about the build quality of the J/120. The hole certainly wasn't small as the boat reportedly went down in 5 to 7 minutes.
