then a weaker rudder may have been better. The rudder post of that boat is pretty stout. I can imagine an impact that fails to break the post, but tears out the the hull around the tube. If the rudder had just snapped off, maybe it would have taken a few more additional hits before going down. I doubt we will have enough info to ever know.
