There are some things that most boats can't take, even the Robertson's schooner, which I doubt anyone would call lightly built. Every boat is a compromise. We could only build boats that would survive hitting rocks and being attacked by whales, but then they'd be a lot more expensive, a lot heavier (steel) and a lot slower, which introduces other risks.
Some J boats have had keel issues and failures, and they should be rightly criticized. But not this time.
