I have original Lewmar Superhatches on a 1986 Tartan 40. Mine don't seal as easily / as well as they should, the glass is badly crazed on a couple, I need some spare parts (dogs & handles I'm told are not available), I heard Lewmar will stop making the replacement for this hatch (Ocen series) sometime soon, and it's probably time for the replacement after 25 years anyhow. The Ocean Hatch is a direct replacement for my Superhatch, so I am anticipating a drop-in fit. If in fact they stop making this hatch, I would hate to think about the expense & difficulty of modifying an opening.
I'm thinking of replacing all four with new Lewmar Ocean Hatches, with the flange. Anyone done this ... pretty straightforward ? I suspect the worst part of the project will be removing the old hatches with putty knives and small wedges, then cleaning up whatever goop Tartan used to bed them.
Pete at FLA Hydraulic says to use 3M 101 Sealant to bed the new hatches. Any comment ?
thanks, cheers, John
