Unfortunately, just like painting, proper prep work is 90% of the final job. Lots of folks don't do the cleanup and prep required to ensure a decent caulk job of the 'not to be repeated' type.

Otherwise I use 4200.

Maybe it was my ill considered youth but I had too many failures with other types of caulk and have just settled on the 3M over the years.

Any plastic frames surrounding portlights, 'resin' hatches, etc will eventually degrade in the sun and break when taken apart. It may be that caulk failure enables them to be removed more easily and NOT break but then they're crap by that time anyway. IMHO...
