That's what I've used with good results.

The butyl sealant comes on a roll with a coated paper tape backing. Think of a long, very sticky gummy worm about 1/8" x 1/4". I put down 1 or more rows depending on how wide the surface and the size of the final gap. It will squeeze into the gap as the screws are tightened. The butyl sealant never hardens but sticks like crazy to the surfaces.
