I have enough battery power to run the house for about 3 days between charges.
Not being a full timer, I can usually cruise a long weekend without running the genset. On a week or two cruise, I run the genset every other day for about 90 minutes. If it is extremely hot, I will run the genset an hour while cooking dinner, in order to also run the AC and cool the cabin down after a long day in the sun. Even when I had the combiner, I did this.
The windlass uses so little of the power a group 32 battery stores, it is possible to hoist and drop anchor several times a day for a week without depleting the battery. When I was using the combiner, I was never sure whether the windlass battery was receiving a charge, due to my charge schedule. I was never sure if the engine battery had been topped off and kicked the charge over to the windlass in the time I ran the engine or genset. Now I know, when the genset is running, the windlass is charging, if it needs it. easy, peasy lemon squeezy.
