When I arrived back at the boat in Bocas Del Toro my start battery was dead. Don't know why but it was. The eco charger on my house bank 130 amp charger doesn't work. I had always charged the start battery from the engine but with no way to charge to get the engine started I took the dingy to town and saw the Black & Decker model. It looked very well made and 40 amp charging along with EQ,,, WOW, and the 'ferreterÃa', ( hardware store ) was selling it for $104.00. That's a lot less than the $130.00 in the states. I thought that kind of equipment was more expensive in other countries.
I bought it.
Now that the start battery is charged I'm fine and the new B&W charger will be a gook backup in case the onboard one goes out. It's a real monster with some hefty cables to match. I'm a bit afraid to use the 40 amp circuit on the house bank but it should be fine in the 20 amp mode. To attempt to charge my almost 900 amp bank at the chargers maximum would surely overload the charger.
A good find.
