Hi Brian,
I actually did some research on this because while I have an old Heart inverter/charger on my boat, it doesn't have an equalization mode on it. Or if it does, I don't have the control unit to turn it on. My alternator is stock self regulated model. Consequently I have had no way to overcharge or equalize the batts.
After doing some research, I ordered this unit for about $88 including shipping:

It (and its Black and Decker companion model) have gotten pretty good reviews including some who used it to equalize. Apparently it won't charge completely flat dead batts (it apparently needs some charge to register), but I don't need it for that. There are other units that can equalize as well, but this seemed the best one in terms of amps and price and capability.
With a rating of up to 20 amps, it should be enough to put an equalization charge even in our 225 AH house bank. If not I may have to disconnect the batts and do them one or two at a time.
Once I get it, I'll take it down to the boat and give it a shot and report back on how it worked.
