My Volvo 2003 engine has a hand crank and the ability to manually release the compression for each of the three cylinders. As such the engine, theoretically, could be started by hand. But the boat designer has placed a bulkhead in such a way that one can't get a full turn on the crank when inserted, so hand cranking is impossible. So I thought: how about using a powerful electric drill with a custom made bit that would fit into the crack receptacle to spin the engine? On the theory that one kept the drill charged, could this be a starting solution if there were a failure of the batteries or the starter motor? Does this make sense, and if so, do I use an electric drill or an electric impact wrench? I don't know what the later is. Thoughts?
