When we came back from Mexico last month, we arrived during normal business hours at the San Diego center. There was nobody there, and the one phone that contacts them was having problems. Finally after a wait and several tries, we contacted them and gave them a cell phone number to get information from us in case the phone went out again. Their contact number is unlisted, so we couldn't call them if the dedicated phone wasn't working. They were all out at the airport, but said they would send somebody. A few minutes later, several heavily armed CBP personnel showed up. Fortunately, they were there for another client repossessing a boat out of country, so we got to wait again instead of surrendering. An hour or so later the two for us showed up, took a cursory look at the boat and passports (and I suppose the cat), filled out some paperwork, charged a $27.50 processing fee since we didn't have a decal, and took off. Presumably for the airport. We did make it back to our slip before dark, which was the whole idea, so I guess it all came out well. At least by comparison to Florida they seemed like a model operation.
