However, you could if you mount the pump above the tank, putting it above the waterline.. Even better, if you have at least 5" clearance above the tank, also put all your fittings on the top of the tank with a pickup tube inside the tank on the discharge. Whether you can do that or not, I'd eliminate the y-valve by putting two discharge fittings in the tank.
