I had an electrician install a transfer switch in my house with an outdoor connection. I use it with the contractors generator for emergency power. When it was raining I ran the generator in the garage with the large door kept open. My CO detector triggered upstairs inside the house!

Now I only use the generator outside with the garage door closed. Every house that has a heating system or hot water heater should have a CO detector or two in the living areas.
