DQOTD for you electrical types
Wow good question.
Good feedback Gene
The only thing I didn't touch on...
You would need an inline fuse on the plug line.

Yes but the point was made that the generator's breaker might be too high a value
Not a problem as long as you use some common sense about what you power up..
I agree. The 120v breakers on my generator are 15A anyway
You still have the potential to throw the main and fry a lineman.
That scenario would obviously require guarded or protected operation
I disconect the neutral wire at the panel too...
The neutral is supposed to be bonded to ground (only) at the main service panel
The system in the house is grounded to a ground rod...
According to my reading, you shouldn't have more than one earth ground
Tape the main down, and tag it!
screw tape ... if you cannot lock the box, then
Fumes?
Good advice Travis. I've seen that happen at my house.
I do something similar with my 5 kw generator...
You will only power up half the house with 120V
Andy, I use the 220 outlet on my generator...
For the electrically challenged like me
If you have an electric dryer you can plug into that 220 outlet...
don't need to install a circuit breaker
You'd want to run it into a 240 v plug...
I've seen this done before
Likewise
re post in right place
Those "hanging pigtails" sound a bit "iffy"
