I made up a 220VAC cable that plugs into the dryer outlet. Before I turn it on I turn the main breaker off AND disconnect the neutral wire at the panel. It works very well and lets me run a few 220 things too like my well pump. We don't use the stove though. Incidentally, my cord is made from 8 gauge wire so it can carry the full output of my generator with no risk.
