It would work. I've done it. but you only power up half the house ( the 220v in supplies 2 legs) You might have to try a few outlets until you get on the furnace side. ALSO THROW THE WELL PUMP BREAKER AS WELL AS THE MAIN. if you are only going to feed 120v. Also I built a 220v cable to feed feed thru the dryer outlet.
