Y valves and overboard discharge
zip ties
Acceptable means of "securing the system"
What's the point of the wire tie? Unless it's placed by some authority, ...
I agree. Never heard of a sea cock that could turn to the open position without help.
Debate it all you want with the USCG...I'm just the messenger who posted the federal regulation--33 CFR 159.7--vebatim.
Thanks Peggie and everyone
A Coastie explained to me that the tie wrap, etc. was to insure ...
Same experience here, Ron
...plumbing got a bit intricate but it's worth it in the end...
locking system closed
speaking of "closed is closed"
I suppose they are all silly, but get the point across to those on board.

Occasionally move the pump handle -- or it will "lock-up".
So is direct overboard discharge illegal? Thought this was legal outside 3 miles.
You thought correctly, Gene.
Direct Discharge
Oh, that's easy...
Peggy, what about this?
It all depends on how they define "refuse"
Saw an incident in Boothbay Hbr
Just like they did in the olde days
Seems to me the bowsprit heads could get a bit messy...

As long as y'all seem to be bored enough to pursue the silly side of this topic...a trivia question:
Can't directly answer
You get the cigar...the "Monitor" is the correct answer...
I highly recommend the Monitor exhibit
There wasn't any odor because waste went directly into the water...
As long as we are on the subject... What are some good designs for heads/holding?
I found this West Advisor article very useful.
Using the WM article as a base
My system looks like...
What I have is....
sounds like I would need a second thru hull for that.
Todd's approach is more simple
You need 2 or 3 y-valves but not a separate through hull
Got it.... add two valves and some plumbing...
No Gene. See Todd's post. No Y-valves.
Todd has no direct discharge
You need zero y-valves
That is correct - do direct discharge on my system
Whale is the best Y-valve to use, BTW
A picture
The drawing is missing the macerator
We don't use no stinking macerator!
I stand corrected. 'Some method of getting the stuff in the tank overboard.
Here is a Don Casey article that seems to cover all the systems well...
I didn't include drawings because I don't think there is a "one size fits all" setup...
tried your old email adder...
Couldn't "break the code" for your email addy...
code
It's ok...we connected!
Thanks Peggie...
