Chain Plates

I have brought my 26 year old Vagabond 42 back from the Caribbean for a refit. New water tanks, fix the leaks, new engine, new paint. I insisted that we cut open the beautiful teal paneling and inspect the chain plates. The carpenters have opened the accesses. The chain plates look OK at a cursory glance. Not heavily corroded. Do we still need to pull each one? If we go to the effort of pulling them, do you think we should go ahead and replace them. My contractor is talking about having them "maga fluxed" to check for cracks. How do you tell if a chain plate should be replaced?

Don't the members of this board agree that since we were doing a major refit it made sense to dig into the chain plates and inspect them, or was it a waste of effort and money?
