Chain plates ongoing saga

OK, I'm convinced. They have to come out and if they are out I may as well go ahead and replace them. So today the refit crew tears into them only to find out that on a Vagabond they HAVE to come out from the inside. There is a tab welded to the them that can not come up through the cap rail. Requires tearing out about twice as much of my beautiful teak paneling and cabinets. Not going to mess with the mizzen chin plates, just the main mast. Still six chain plates is going to run $8000 - $9000 including putting the boat back together again. But, I like to sleep well when we are on a crossing so they are getting done! Thank you to all who shared their expertise. This board is a great resource.
