SG,
Dr. LED has been VERY, VERY misleading about their bulbs and their certifications. He is a rather dishonest businessman IMHO. I got into a tangle with him over my series 40 bulb I bought from Defender. Dr. LED had changed the design from a multi-emitter bulb to a single emitter and still claimed "USCG certified" which it in fact was NOT because the new style bulb had never been certified by the lab, it's predecessor had been. He refused to refund my money even though he flat out lied to me.
It took nearly a year before they finally got a certification on the the new single emitter bulb in the AS Series 40 all round and I had bought the bulb in March or April of 09, they did not get a certification until Feb 2010. The ONLY bulbs they have certifications for are Series 40 Red, Green and All Round. NONE of their other bulbs are certified no matter how misleading the web site is. There is still no certification for Aqua Signal Series 25's or Series 40 Stern, Bi-Color or Tri-Color at this point. Even their most recent press release is entirely misleading as I have the actual certification reports from the lab and there are only three "certified" Dr. LED applications port AS Series 40 starboard AS Series 40 and All Round Series 40. There are two bulbs certified for use in the AS All Round the first Polar Star 40 and the second generation single emitter, so four total certifications in three fixtures red, green and all round all series 40.
Only the Series 40 All Round, Port & Starboard have a certification none of the series 25 bulbs, at this point, are certified by a USCG lab.. I have copies of all four of Dr. LED's lab certification reports from Imanna Labs, the testing facility, if anyone is actually interested...
Unless you already have some series 40 housings that are in good shape I would not waste my money again on the Dr. LED junk and would instead buy purpose built and certified LED fixtures from either Aqua Signal or Hella. The Lopo Lights on our club launch have had multiple failures at three times the cost of my Series 32 Aquasignal LED. They look nice and appear well built but......
