The face of each LED is exposed. In my first failure it was because I wasn't careful enough and bumped the light against something hard -- cracked an individual LED bulb. My fault, no light is bullet proof, but it would be nice if it had sacrificial lens over it. I also had a failure where all the LEDs in one quadrant of the Owl light failed. I don't know what component inside is common to a quadrant, but I emailed a photo showing the failed quadrant to Michael (Bebi) and he shipped a free replacement under the lifetime warranty. Can't argue with that.
I own two Owl lights (one for each side of the boat) for several years. I highly recommend Bebi lights. Reliable, low draw and economical.
Have sold a number for Michael (I think) when in an anchorage -- people dinghy up to our boat next morning and ask about them, and I write down the URL for Bebi. It happens a few times each summer.
