There are both. Something you don't hear is, 2 spars are expensive to build.

The added spars, booms, standing and running rigging, sails, all add a lot to the cost of building a boat. Today the bottom line is what sells most boats. And a ketch rig isn't as fast as a sloop to windward, comparing apples to apples. But windward performance among sailboats is vast for far more reasons that just that. If you really want fast, go big.

I'll often hear some dumb stuff about a yawl rig like my boat, both pro and con. I get good use out of the rig though and it enhances my sailing. The yawl design was rating driven but you still see them sailing well and put to good use. They'll always be around.
