Tell me what is "state of the art" in depth sounders, wind indicators, speedo's anymore. GPS and Radar has been around for years! Ok, there is a new all digital Radar, that I'll give ya, but most everything is really the same. Some chip designs may change a little but who really cares if the depth is updated 60 times a second or 20 times / second. Same with the wind or speedo's. And the speed most people anymore simply use SOG on a GPS. Also, you now have wireless; opps, that's been around for half a dozen years so that's NOT state of the art. You can have speedo's that use soundwaves not a little impellor but that's been around for 20 years or so. Comparing a sail boat instruments to Computers IMHO is like comparing Apples to Oak trees!
Yeah, there's a lot of differences happening in computer hardware but so much of the software; if developers follow the manufacture guidelines, still runs.
So RM has been good to you. Great. I've known 1/2 dozen cruisers personally that they've screwed. Some costing them 1,000's of dollars. That's not a company I prefer to do business with. I'm just sorry they have the money to gobble up companies that have a solid product and ruin it.
Just my opinion.
Oh, and the same thing goes about Xantrax!
Go Slow
Sail Far
Stay Long
ps I have no monetary interest in either Raymarine or Xantrax - I'm not selling the stock short, just not fond of companies that IMHO short the end user.
