From Wikipedia on Raymarine "The company (Raymarine) was formed by a leveraged buyout of the consumer electronics branch of Raytheon corporation. With subsequent acquisitions it is now a major supplier of marine electronics." Don't know when Raytheon ditched the marine business. Raytheon was making marine electronics when I got into sailing in the '60s.
Raymarine got their current line of Wheelpilot and instruments from acquiring Autohelm. Initially it appears there was little difference between the Autohelm line and Raymarine other than the color of the instrument heads. Recently Raymarine has made enough changes to call the ST60 line the ST60 plus line. Not an electrical engineer so don't know whether that was marketing hype or a significant improvement. The X5 is definitely a better pilot than the 4000 plus which got it's start as the Autohelm 3000, IIRC.
