Mine is wired the same way now. I think it started with 2 batteries and the typical 1-2-Both switch. The starter is on it's own, I added an ON-OFF to that just for safety.

I never thought about removing the switch but I just use it for Both-Off.

Good question on the monitor though, I don't know that.
