Nothing is good to enter in a "heavy" sea state, by definition

If the swells are "in line" with the entrance, it would a very different approach than if they are setting you into the shallows.

The other issues with Cape May (and the Delaware Bay) is that an onshore wind with an outgoing tide (or vice versa, to lesser but still significant extent) can be very, very tough.

You have to chose the tidal entrance timing or you're just going to be at the mercy of...

The Delaware Bay's entrance is relatively shallow with shoals flanking the ships' channel. If you have a 10' swell and 5' waves, you have a very different situation in 15' clearance a MLW! Plus, the action is a real mix master.

I think Max...the whole NJ and Delmarva coast is pretty tough. Atlantic City, Delaware Bay (including possibly Cape May), Ocean City, the entrance at the South end of the Chesapeake leading to Norfolk are the only "real" choices".

I wouldn't put myself in that position, if I were you or your friends.
