We went through against the current a few weeks ago 
In Response To: Been there, done that. Once. ()
It slowed us down by about 3 knots but other than the blinding ground fog at the NE end it was all good inside. Interestingly enough, the power boats going with the current in the opposite direction didn't kick as much wake... as probably they were more content with what they read on their GPS SOG.
