You're smart Paul, you know what you like, and it ain't down there.
In Response To: Thanks, Tom. Very nice. ()

I think some people go to an area, expecting something it's not. I think that happens in Maine, and then, not surprisingly, they don't enjoy it that much, and you hear the usual complaints. We've heard them all.

But I heard a new one....

A beautiful wooden yawl came into Menemsha from Round Pond Maine. I don't usually bug people, but I couldn't resist rowing over.

We met the nicest couple. Not too unusual story. He'd taken the boat to Maine and kept it there for many years. Like many, he enjoyed a nice Maine adventure sailing the coast in summer, left it in the fall.

We got around to talking about swimming in icy Maine water. I was saying, that's a big reason that over the years, we've headed south. My whole family loves to swim in this area. He enthusiastically agreed.

He began to tell us about his last swimming experience in Maine. He was anchored somewhere around Sebasco I think.

With eyes that suddenly grew big as saucers, he related how he was climbing down his swim ladder, when he looked over his shoulder, and saw an enormous shark....just floating beneath the surface, waiting.

Anyway, he's from southern New England, and he was bringing the boat back to his familiar home waters. His Maine adventure was over, perhaps partially because of his last swim?

I was thinking about him later as we watched the sunset on an unusually placid Vineyard Sound that evening.

I asked my wife, "Say Mary Ann, isn't this where they filmed JAWS?",..."Yeah I think so, why?" "Oh I don't know,......"
