That's too bad. We only got up there once to anchor.

After the storm - Katama Bay blown-out

I don't feel so badly knowing mother nature also closed it in a manner of speaking.

48 hours moored in Menemsha on Marthas Vineyard.
It's a beautiful little harbor to slowly row.
Hard to believe today this precious waterfront has survived intact.
It bustles onshore mid day.
We could tell by the fish crates for tables and chairs, this was a good spot for seafood.
I took a close up of a Menemsha lobsterman.
A touristy thing to do in Menemsha is watch the sunset.
What's left in September after the sunsets in Menemsha?
You see well! Nice.
Thanks, Tom. Very nice.
You beat me to it, Paul!
You're smart Paul, you know what you like, and it ain't down there.
They filmed Jaws in the Montauk area
"Quints" workshop was in Menemsha Larry. I have friends that remember the filming.
Cool. Now I need to watch it again.
"Orca" was a better movie, imo.
There was a captain of a fishing boat that used to be proud as a "shark hunter".

A shark? In Maine?
Yes I know. But he was convinced! Could have been a Sunfish.
I saw a big shark (I suspect it could have been a White Shark)
From the DMF (State of Maine)
Actually, I think it was from Massachuesetts -- shame on me for not reading more closely ;^)))
I saw this Huge Shark in Albuquerque this last weekend.......Big Teeth, scary!
Beauty pics and words as always, Tom - the light alone tells you what month it was
Menemsha Pond
I've heard conflicting reports about whether anchoring up there is even permitted now...
Menemsha Pond
If you do go in there -- do it on a flood tide
I guess. I went through some of it, with oars.
About 7 years ago...I saw a 30' sailboat that was aground
Menemsha Pond
Great information, Richard - thanks very much
Good info, but we've anchored in Menemsha Bight several times
Agree, Richard! unpleasant anchorage !
Ever wonder how old some of those fishing boats are?
Yes I do. I also wonder about their working history. Even these draggers,..
Those two look like "Southerners"
Wow! You know your stuff. CORINNA was built in St Augustine.
yes, a "working harbour", but did you not notice ...
I did see one Jetboat.
Hard to believe the shacks are there at all.
Still my favorite place in Nantucket & the Vinyid ...
Tom, great pics and (b)log....
What is the max draft on entry?
I wish I could help. I didn't even look at the depth sounder.
To the harbor: Yes ; Beyond, I think not "safely"

We tried it years ago in our Ranger 23 with ~4-foot draft.
You meant of course the pond channel
Oh, yes. Past the harbor, into the pond.
Another Menemsha sunset, three weeks ago
Menemsha is a fishing town,
Wow! That's fresh.
Katama Bay -- Old Chart (before storm too it out)
After the storm - Katama Bay blown-out
when did that happen?
I think it was 2007
That's too bad. We only got up there once to anchor.
Mother's equivalent of "Game, Set, Match" ;^)
