I always wonder that. If my boat were in the water year round in a warmer climate, would I want to sail year round? Aren't there still preferable seasons or times of the year you do most of your sailing? I can see that if it is in the water, you will(should) tend to it regularly, and that's a pleasant thing to do in your climate(not here of course although some do).
No records are really well kept but some stats show most boats are used for coastal sailing and don't go too far from there home waters, mine included. There's only been a season or so that I recall I felt I didn't sail as much as I wanted to in our season. I have a strong desire to get on the boat and go as much as I want during our season. This includes day sailing(for the simple joy of sailing) to getting off for a few weeks traveling away from home(something the boat is so well equipped for and we enjoy).
When I've done that in a 4 to 5 month season on the coast here, I'm content, maybe even eager to safely put the boat in a seasonal limbo. There are other activities that are seasonal(winter) still pulling us to do. I think about sailing during the winter. That's a pleasant sort of meditation for me. I guess that's why this place is so enjoyable over the winter.
As if on cue, a lovely gentle snow is falling right now as I type. It's not a big one, but it's coated the ground and trees outside. Nice for the holidays and the local ski area opens today.
