Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

I see traveling under power in a sailboat all part of coastal sailing.

At times when winds aren't agreeable, I rather enjoy furling the sails and running under power to a destination. It's easy at times and nice to use the engine and related systems to know they're ready to go for an hour or 24 hours if I want to go up or down the coast. It's also been a part of supplying the amps we need to enjoy ourselves and we appreciate having hot water for showers etc. In the spring and fall here in Maine, it's nice to open a hatch or two and enjoy the residual heat the engine will put off as well.

Sailing is usually preferred but the reality of wanting to go somewhere in a sailboat for us(schedule or not), is what it is.
