We lived in the area and spent much time at 3-mile from 1991-2008 and that house was always occupied and the beach well used. It was for sale in the last couple of years we lived there, so maybe it didn't sell and became disused. The problem with the house (and beach) is that the normal tide comes right up to the door. We have seen it flooded during unusually high tides. Boat wakes make it worse. Coupled with storm erosion and maybe the house was condemned?
