I thought hard about one of these! I like the concept and I almost did it. My wife HATED the looks of the little engine though.
The only issue I have with any small outboard is in dealing with ethanol fuel! If I could eliminate the issues I have with fuel I'd be very happy with my gasoline powered engine. What I have adopted for a routine works very well even if it is a bit cumbersome. We always add fuel to the outboard through a "Mr Funnel". This captures the errant water that always somehow finds its way into the fuel during a fuel up. This and a mixture of Stabil (the marine version) and Startron has resulted in a smooth running engine all season long.
If I ever see a good looking redesign of an electric outboard though....
