If you have a scratch or UV hazing you can sand it out, polish it and it looks new. Our Lexan main large ports have been polished a number of times during the past 10 years and still look new. We even had a guy put a belt sander to it by accident when working on the wood frame and we polished it out.

Having said that, I'd probably go with tempered if it's flat, Polycarbonate if it's curved as you can bend it a bit, just warm it up. That's it's beauty, since it's soft it absorbs impact instead of shattering.
