At least I'm assuming you don't use gas as your dryer and oven are electric.
The two times we've lost power since purchasing the 2K Yamaha we put it on the roof (roof deck) and fed the cable through an opening skylight to the kitchen. From there it gets hooked up to the refrigerator with a feed to the television (now Dish) and the internet router. A few led solar lights that we grab from the back yard and we're styling. Of course, this is Southern California at the beach. We don't have air conditioning as we don't need it and we can get by without the gas heater. We also have 5 20lb propane tanks for cooking and running the generator if the natural gas goes down. (The dryer runs on natural gas so it will probably work unless that happens)
We're just 8 miles north of the San Clemente nuclear plant which has been down for a year. It may be down for good and it's a long way to any other station so we're a bit paranoid of loosing power. We've been toying with a way to use the pool water to drink through the fresh water RO system in the kitchen but at the moment we plan on using the water in the water heater for drinking.
Of course, for you guys on the East Coast, loosing power can happen in a bad season,,,,, usually does and it's a lot worse.
