No, but it's a familiar theme. I just finished the book Matinicus by Dary Scott.

It was a pretty good yarn, would be a good book to read while cruising Maine.

It's a fictional tale but she spent time on the island and got to know many residents so it's a good non fiction about Maine outer island culture, as well. That's a unique culture(each island), but it also shares a lot of what is simply rural poor and the problems that go with that. I guess that is everywhere including islands off Canada, eh?
