In the second, putting the boat into a hove to position would have kept 90 percent of that junk from flying at all. In the third place, short of having rolled over, all that junk could have been dealt with. Shoot, even after rolling over, a boat can be cleaned up. Jumping ship was way down the list of things they needed to do first. Looking at the picture, she hasn't yet shipped enough water to make her a candidate for for being abandoned. IMHO. I've been in some shitty weather in the last 50 years and I can tell you that it's last thing I want to do. Stepping off into the unknown is something i would really work hard to avoid!
