When I read the reference to the inverter/charger not working I immediately assumed that they had a generator. I still have that assumption. But as the old saying goes assume means making as ass of u and me.

Amazing that someone could set out on an ocean passage and not know how their boat functioned, or if it functioned. They needed a pro captain of a pro boat engineer aboard. Then these issues would have been mere annoyances.
