That book was a lot of work . . . but it's Don's stories that make his books so much more interesting than most other guides. And if more people paid attention to him there would be fewer boats running into stuff in the dark!
I fell in love with with the Cape Verdes while I was working on the book. The guy that sold Don most of the photos has hundreds on his website, everything from the salt mines to Carnival . . . The variation in scenery is just amazing, from desert opposite Mindelo to rain forest on adjacent Santo Antao. And almost every inch of every sheer hillside appears to be terraced.
Definitely a place to go . . . but not a lot of all-weather hidey holes
