Few marinas, big seas, heavy winds...

and nowhere to go for 2,000 miles.

There are a number of tourist type booze cruises including an old Cup boat and the usual catamaran off the beach sort of thing but not much private pleasure sailing that I could see. The cat that runs up the Napali coast is a fun trip if you get a chance.

I remember walking around Ala Wai marina next to Waikiki and seeing boats that had literally become one with the docks. There just aren't many protected harbors there and those that do exist are small and packed full of floating wrecks that washed up and never left. Ok, maybe that's a little exageration but it really isn't much of a sailing place except for a few cruisers passing through.

It does seem a little strange considering the history of Polynesian seafaring...
