When I had

My 41' cruising cat, I got totally dialed in to just how dependent I was on hydrocarbons! No diesel, no heat. No diesel, no electricity (though the solar panels supplemented, they weren't 100% in the PNW). I was also far too dependent on a variety of parts and pieces, most often little electrical widgets, transistors, diodes, etc. not to mention being dependent on a good parcel shipping infrastructure to keep running. Quite honestly, it took a lot of the fun away. Knowing (and having) my cruise aborted over the failure of some electronic sensor thingy.

I'll still be dependent on many of the same things for the 'next' boat, but it will be far simpler and less likely to not be able to be used due to the lack or failure of an electrical or electronic part...
