Can't talk about the Adler Barber as I have never used one. BUT, I can sure tell you that the Engel is GREAT on power usage.

We are cruising here in the San Francisco Bay & Delta area just now, full time. I converted over our lights to all LED, well almost all. And we have an Engel portable put into a cabinet in the galley. This is NOT the tropics, but it's not always cold.

We are depending on one (1) each 85 Watt solar panel to produce most of the power we use! We do need to start the engine about once every 5 to 7 days. Or pull in some place and charge up. That keeps our discharge way less than 50% DOD. We have 3 Group 31 AGMs for about 300 Ah total house bank.

I was watching our Link 10 the other day when only the Engel come on. It ran for maybe 1.5 to 2 min. BUT, the kicker was the power usage during the run. When it started it used the full rated 2.4 Ah. But after about 25 to 30 seconds the usage started dropping. During the last 30+ seconds it was only using about 1.2 to 1.5 Ah.

I have had and use a Norcold, an Waeco and the Engel, BY FAR the engel is the lowest power user!
