All electric boat and no generator?
In Response To: Sailing in Kona ()

Oh my god. An all electric boat with nothing but solar panels and a wind generator to supply power?

How many batteries? A ton? What do you do when becalmed on a cloudy day...days?

And five electric bilge pumps won't be doing you much good if there is no power to run them.

What am I missing here? Has to be something I'm missing.

And that 7000 regenerator? This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zljhl89Rc54) shows one with a two blade prop putting out 3.8 amps at 7.6 knots dragging through the water. In the 80's we had a taffrail generator that dragged a prop on a line behind the boat that would put out 5 amps at 5 knots.

I couldn't think of a worse rigged boat for cruising unless it had no power at all. I take that back. We sailed from the West Coast to the Gulf of Mexico engineless and had the luxury of a propane stove.
