Your spouse should be made an officer of the boat, in the crew list you use to check in.
On Guenevere, Jill is the "navigator". IF, your spouse is listed as "crew", they are not an officer and can NOT take charge of the vessel if the captain is incapacitated.
Can't speak for the other places.

- Then the boat would be community property.
