Have played with bluetooth a bit recently. I'm mentoring a local middle school Lego robotics group, and there are basically 3 ways to get the computer (for programming) to talk to the brick. The cable is low tech, but you have to disconnect it before running the robot. Wi-Fi works, but you need a) a local router (and password) and b) a WiFi dongle hanging out of the brick. Bluetooth is limited in range but works well - Bluetooth is built into the brick, and I only needed a $15 dongle for my laptop to connect. Still working on how to work with multiple bluetooth devices within range, particularly if I want to sent programs to either one.
