The only way you can sail away from it all is if you have no family and only yourself and your cruising partner (if you have one). If you have any family you care about it can't be done. You will always have ties. With no family I think it can be done. The only thing that kept me tied was family. Now that they're all gone and I'm the only one left my physical health is on the skids and cruising is just too much work to make it fun anymore.

My take on it is you can sail away but only for about 2 weeks. That would be the time between no responsibilities and failing health due to old age.
