We never spoke about it on my boat, but it usually works out that way.
Sometimes I just overrule her though... particularly the "chicken rule" I have an issue with is when the Admiral wants me to yield when we're the stand-on vessel and we've got plenty of room (and time) to see if the other vessel is going to yield. I tell her every time that if we don't stand-on it creates confusion and that's more dangerous, and that it's safer to just watch the other boat until/unless it's clear they might not yield.
