Recently, I've been mentoring a group of middle school kids doing the Legos robotics. Out of 8 kids in my group, 6 are flaky and would rather be elsewhere - the other 2 are a delight. They are into the program, into the goals, and focused. The other 6 are OK for a while but after their attention span dies out, you practically have to beat them to pay attention - Hello? There's a competition this Saturday - are you ready? They say 'whatever' and go back to their Rubik cubes or cell phones. If not for the two, I'd chuck it.
