Islas San Benito from the north, where the confidential shelf rises up. We were by the Ranger Bank. Not exactly 100 miles off the closest shore, but we were over 100 miles from our departure. If/when you head down, stay well inside or outside of the bank if any weather is brewing.
We talked a bit about it in our West Coast DVD, but no video as we were otherwise occupied
I talked about it in one of our position reports, but didn't make a big deal about it in on our web pages. Our log says that "The seas were over 18 foot! The wind at or above 30." and we got hit at 0218 AM.
It's all sort of a learning process. "What's the saying, that which does not kill you.....". It seems we were very lucky as bad weather & stuff started building for us. That is, we didn't get hit with the BIG bad up front. So, each thing we lived through made us more and more sure of our boat and our ability to handle it. The biggest thing that helped, as Dan said, was that we were used to fixing everything our self's. It sure added to our confidence along the way!
