My current plan is to haul the boat in Florida and send it northwest. Ft. Lauderdale looked like a better bet than Maimi, but I have no preference. Looking for a good boat yard with a large travel lift (so we can haul masts in), an onsite real crane to unstep, some security and care about what they are doing, etc. I will haul the boat and leave it chocked for a few weeks, then return to derig and put on a truck, has to be gone by June according to insurer. I will visit a few when I get there, but does anyone have a recommendation?
I had hoped to have time to get to Key West and the Dry Tortugas, but that looks like a significant side trip which we will not have time for. There is also very thin water in that part of Florida (or perhaps all of Florida).
As an aside, I briefly entertained the idea of Dockwise or Sevenstar (they are the same company now) loading in Miami and unloading in Victoria, but the quote was a bit of a step back: $45,500 for the service. I would get to ride along and go through the Canal, but that is around 3 times the quoted cost of trucking.
